The DoubleU Chat application uses certain information from your phone to allow its use with the capabilities described. These permissions will be requested the first time you open the application or when you try to access a specific area of the app which requires that permission. We would like to further detail the permissions requested by the application and how this data is managed by the chat application.
First of all, we want to list the necessary information that will be requested by the application after installation:
In the following we will explain the reason why this information is requested and how it is managed by the application.
Since it is an online chat application, it needs to be able to connect to the DoubleU Chat servers in order to receive and send the messages you want. In this case, the Internet connection is mandatory and is used strictly for the communication of the application with our servers. All data transferred between your Android device and the DoubleuU Chat servers are encrypted.
In addition to messages, the Internet connection is also used to receive from the DoubleU Chat server the information necessary to establish your profile in the application: username, e-mail address, profile picture (if you choose to use it) when you create an account, but also when you want to change your profile.
On the same encrypted channel, the name of the wifi network to which you are connected is also transmitted to our servers in order to achieve the purpose of the application: finding all users of the application from the wifi network to which you are connected.
In order to be able to offer you the chat service, we need to know the state of the internet connection of the device you are using. The state of the internet connection is not stored at all, but only checked locally on your device in order to inform you when you use the application whether you can enjoy the chat service or not. When there is no internet connection, you will receive a notification in the application that you need it to be able to communicate with your friends.
Wi-Fi access is required. Since the DoubleU Chat application wants to offer you the possibility of finding chat partners within the Wifi network you are connected to at that moment, the application will automatically need to have access to wifi resources. The wifi connection will be used to uniquely identify the wifi network you are connected to, but it will also be used to transmit data over the internet, as mentioned in article 1 above.
Regarding the Wi-Fi connection, the application will take over and forward to the server the name of the Wi-Fi network to which you are connected at a given moment. Our servers do not store the history of the Wi-Fi networks to which you have been connected over time, but only the name of the last Wi-Fi network to which you have been connected.
Writing and reading the internal storage space of the Android device it's neccessary to use the app. This permission is requested strictly for access to the profile picture that you will want to set for your account. When you want/if you want to set such a picture, the application will allow you to choose a picture from your device. Only this picture will be sent to the DoubleU Chat servers to which the users accepted by you as friends will have access even when you are not online.
Writing to the storage space is necessary for creating buffer information that will contribute to the faster operation of the application. This data is periodically cleaned by the application in order to maintain a storage space used by the application at a minimum level, but without affecting the proper functioning of the application.
Reading the contacts on your device is necessary for the application only if you want to connect a person from the address book to the friends on the application. The list of contacts is not transmitted to the DoubleU Chat servers.
In order to retrieve the name of the local Wi-Fi network you are connected to, the application needs access to the GPS location of your device. The data related to the GPS location is not transmitted to the server and is not processed in any way by the application.
